Walking and Bone Density: What It Can and Can't Do

Bone is live tissue that remodels itself according to the loads you place on it — Wolff's law, the oldest rule in skeletal biology. Walking loads the skeleton thousands of times per outing, so it seems obvious that it should build bone. The evidence says: partly, at specific sites, and with important limits worth understanding.
