About CalculateWalk
CalculateWalk.com exists to do two things well: give walkers a fast, accurate calculator for pace, calories, and steps — and publish honest, research-grounded writing about what walking actually does for the human body.
Why we built it
Walking is the most common form of exercise in the world, yet most of what's written about it is either vague encouragement or recycled myths (the 10,000-step target began as a pedometer slogan, not science). Meanwhile, the actual research on walking has become genuinely impressive: randomized trials on brain volume, meta-analyses on blood pressure, step-count cohorts following tens of thousands of people. We read that research and translate it — with the caveats left in.
Our editorial standards
Every article on this site is grounded in published, peer-reviewed research. Where evidence is strong, we say so; where walking has limits (bone density is a good example), we say that too. We do not publish medical advice — content here is general information, and exercise decisions involving health conditions belong with your physician.
The Calculate Network
CalculateWalk is part of a family of free fitness calculator sites, each focused on one activity: CalculateRun.com (34 running calculators covering pace, race prediction, and training zones), CalculateSteps.com (step counts between any two places), CalculateHike.com (hiking time and difficulty), and CalculateBike.com (cycling speed and calories). All tools are free to use, supported by advertising.
